[GB] Trøbbel på Paddington på den aller travleste dagen
Paddington station closed on the busiest day ever in London

It was a very British disruption to a very British day. Of all the possible travel issues to arise on the day of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth, the sum of all fears was a disruption to services at Windsor, Heathrow, on the Elizabeth Line, and at London Paddington station. With astonishing bad luck, that’s exactly what happened early in the morning of Monday, 19 September.
Complete chaos ensued after overhead lines...

High-speed line to London taking shape

If anyone remains sceptical, and still has lingering doubts that the high-speed railway line between Birmingham and London will go ahead, they need only visit the southern end of the borough of Camden. There, for all to see from the top deck of a red London bus, is the huge construction site that will eventually be the London terminus of the HS2 project, and eventually lead to more freight space on the traditional line.

    HS2 is Britain’s...

UK: The government and Transport for London have reached agreement on a funding settlement running until March 31 2024. This includes just under £1·2bn of base funding and a revenue support mechanism, although there is still a funding gap and TfL is required to consider pension reform, cost savings and driverless trains.

[GB] Kan London underground bli fylt av flomvann?
London on red alert for a flash flooded Underground

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has warned Londoners to expect the worst if this week’s weather forecast is accurate. The South East of England is on alert for severe thunderstorms and heavy rain, after a prolonged dry spell has left the parks parched and a hose pipe ban in place. Most seriously though, the Mayor fears for the integrity of the Underground – the oldest subterranean railway network in the world.

[GB] Transport for London kan bli nasjonalisert
Transport for London could be nationalised

UK government bail-outs for Transport for London could soon come to an abrupt end, with the entire integrated transit network taken into public ownership. That’s the stark possibility as the capital’s commuter network continues to make significant losses, and the national government in Westminster grows more reluctant to fund its neighbour at the mayor’s office on the opposite bank of the Thames.

    Despite high-profile development...

Svar til [NO] Bør Sikringsforskriften også omfatte sporveier?
As London’s tube network ground to a halt on Tuesday, it was more than just commuters that felt the pain. The relationship between the major trades unions and the railway industry has always been robust, but the two 24-hour strikes called this week represented a new low-point.

The belief that shaking off the shackles of state-ownership would bring railway management and workforce closer lasted about as long as it took for the ink to dry on the first franchise contracts back in the 1990s....
